Elizabeth Miles grew up on the Potomac River where it widens into the Chesapeake Bay, and this early immersion in water and woods remains a primary influence on the forms, colors, textures, and subject matter of her art. The spaces that exist between (between humans and nature, between stages of life, between an object and its observation, between life and death) hold particular interest. Her work ranges from full room installations to small intimate pieces and often combines metals, wood, and found objects with glass. She sometimes uses a traditional lost wax technique for glass casting, but much of her glass work involves sand cast pate de verre.
In addition to her three dimensional work, Elizabeth has recently begun a series of small colored pencil drawings. Many of these feature dogs.
